Deleting a new user account in Mac OS Sever 10.3 or 10.4 is quite easy. This guide also applies to Mac OS Server 10.2. There are minimal variations, such as one button being labeled Delete Record instead of Delete User.
These instructions assume Mac OS Server is already configured and that an auto-mounting share point for home directories has been established. It is also assumed that this is a basic server setup, clients consisting mainly of Mac OS X-based workstations.
Part 1: Workgroup Manager
This portion of the work can be done on any networked computer with Mac OS X.
- Launch Workgroup Manager. This program is probably in the Servers folder within Applications. It not already installed, please do so using the Admin Tools CD that came with your server software.
- You will be prompted to log into the server. This involves the server's domain name, an administrative username for your server, and associated password.
- You should automatically be taken to the user account area, but to be sure, click the Accounts icon in the toolbar and then click the
tab.
- Locate the unwanted user in the list (left edge of window). You can optionally search for the user by typing part of the name in the small field above the list. Please also be aware that you can sort by user ID number (you might need to enlarge the window to see ID numbers.)
- Select the unwanted user in the list.
- Click the Delete User icon in the toolbar.
Part 2: Deleting Home Directory (the user's files)
This portion of the work needs performed at the server. Either physically go to the server or control the server remotely via Apple Remote Desktop.
- Log into the server as the user root.
- Locate the user home directories (folders). This is likely on the 2nd hard drive (possibly named DataHD) in a folder whose name possibly includes 'homes'.
- Locate the home directory/folder associated with the account you are deleting.
- Drag the user's folder to the trash.
