This process seems too easy for all the stuff it does. NetRestore enables a network administrator (you) to setup just one single machine with your school's software and custom configurations. Then with a few steps, create a 'disk image' of the ideal computer and change several other computers to match the one ideal workstation. This procedure is designed for a server running Mac OS Server 10.3 or 10.4. If the workstations involved have Intel proessors, the server must be running 10.4.4 or later. The process can be broken into three major procedures... Server SetupA function of Mac OS Server called NetBoot needs to be enabled. This allows any workstation on the network to startup from NetInstall Sets saved on the server. NetInstall SetA NetInstall Set is created using the school's newest computer(s). (The NetInstall Set is a scaled-down System folder.) ImagingAn image of the school's ideal computer is created, saved to the server, and then copied to the school's other computers. |
