Hand-woven baskets from Tanzanian Women's Group: The new and ever growing selection of International Artisan Crafts are now available at the St. Cloud Mission Office. Hand-woven baskets from a local women's group in Musoma, Tanzania are now available. Through our mission connections with the Maryknoll Sisters serving in Tanzania, we are in turn able to join in solidarity with this group of Tanzanian women. These baskets are all hand-woven from native Tanzanian grass as seen in the accompanying photos on this page. Our support of local artisans like these Tanzanian women is just another way of building and supporting our global mission connections. Through praying for these women and supporting their handi-crafts, we are able to join in solidarity with them. "Its like Christmas everyday around here. It's especially exciting every time we receive a new and exciting shipment of international crafts from around the world." These items are original, handcrafted secular and religious items from indigenous artisans of Kenya, El Salvador, Mexico, Tanzania, and other various St. Cloud mission connections.
Hand-made cards, table cloths, & aprons from Tanzanian Women's Group: An every growing selection of International Artisan Crafts are now available at the St. Cloud Mission Office. Hand-crafted items are now available directly from the Women of the Tupendane Cottage Industry of Musoma, Tanzania including greeting cards, aprons, table cloths, and African vests. Purchasing these hand-crafted items is just another way of supporting our mission connections with the Maryknoll Sisters serving in Tanzania. The Maryknoll Sisters Rosalie and Mary work with these local Tanzanian women in this creative cooperative known as the Tupendane Cottage Industry. "Tupendane" is the Swahili word loosely translated as "let us love each other." The Tupendane crafts sold at the Mission Shop help these young women support themselves and their families. The Tupendane center in Tanzania trains young women in craft skill that caters to the three great transitions in a Christian's life. They make baptismal clothing, greeting cards, season cards, aprons, vests, and even coffins. The Tupendane center is also supporting a local AIDS initiative called Youth Alive (a group of youth committed abstinence and fighting AIDS in Musoma, Tanzania). Come in and support the women of Tupendane with there handcrafted items and others from a variety of indigenous artisans of Kenya, El Salvador, Tanzania, Mexico, and other various St. Cloud mission connections.
