Tanzanian CHILDREN's HEALTH AND ORPHAN CENTRE.
The Arusha region is plagued by a myriad of social, economic and cultural problems. These problems have brought about a phenomenon known as the “street child”. These are children who roam the streets of urban areas, exposed to disease, particularly HIV/AIDS, without a future and without food, education or medical care. Their parents are either deceased, incapable of raising them or have abandoned them to the hazards of life in the city and its surrounding areas. With the worsening economic situation, their numbers are constantly on the increase. It is as a result of this situation, and following an extensive survey and research that it was planned and decided to open a centre for orphans and children aged 0-9 years of age. The purpose of the Centre was to enable as many children as possible to have avenues of self-expression, undergo sensible upbringing, schooling and education in the fear of God and respect for their fellow human beings so as to become worthy members of society. Furthermore and in view of the fact that the Centre would be manned and managed by sisters of the Daughters of Mary Congregation, who are all trained in the medical field,it would also provide primary health care to the local community. It would accordingly be contributing to the spiritual and material needs of the society and community in which it would be operating. More information:
