Priesthood - Stepping In
A young man of college age who is interested in studying for the priesthood for the Diocese of Saint Cloud would usually attend a college seminary. The decision about which college seminary to attend is made by the vocation director working with the candidate and is subject to approval by the bishop. After graduation from college, a person who wishes to further pursue studies for the priesthood would normally attend a major seminary within the United States or in Rome, Italy, which would have a four-year program of theological studies resulting in a Master of Divinity or other theological equivalent. If a person has already completed a bachelor degree but does not have the necessary prerequisite courses in philosophy, an additional one-to-two years of study may be necessary before entering a major seminary.
